As a recovering social worker, I find the analysis of the link between books and emotions just fascinating. I had a visceral response to Marans's comments about the difficulty of adults to comprehend kids' fears--my son lived the kidnapper fear exactly, and 20 years later I still remember my helplessness to ease his dread, even in spite of the picture books I shared with him. Do you think there will be published proceedings? I appreciate your write-up, and wish I had been there.
