The Golden Compass tops Entertainment Weekly’s “Read the Book! 23 Disappointing Movie Adaptations.” It is a very eclectic list, but of those on it I think The Cat in the Hat (#10) was a whole lot worse.
And of course there have been MANY absolutely horrid film adaptations of wonderful children’s books. One of the worst of late was The Seeker, supposedly based on Susan Cooper’s wonderful book, The Dark is Rising.

Certainly there have been worse than Golden Compass – Ella Enchanted and How the Grinch Stole Christmas immediately come to mind.
