Among the Boldface

Last night’s book launch for Rick Riordan‘s The Red Pyramid at the Brooklyn Museum was awesome in the true sense of the word. It began with a reception in the spectacular Beaux Arts Court where we heard readings from the audio book narrators Katherine Kellgren and Kevin R Free and saw Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz honor Rick.  Then we headed off with Rick for a tour of the Egyptian galleries.  Many boldface names were in attendance including Betsy Bird, Jennifer Hubert Swan, Karyn Silverman, Judy Freeman, Lisa von Drasek, John Rocco, Jenny Brown, Roxanne Feldman and daughter Lily,  and the McCord van Kempen family.

Yes indeed, none other than Alex and Simon of The Real Housewives of New York were there because their older son is a huge Riordan fan (they read the books to him).  He also confided to me that he is a “Level K.”  Alex had spectacularly blue high heels that Ms. Swan rightly swooned over.  When I told Alex I was a teacher at Dalton she asked if I knew this former faculty member. After obliging us with a few photos, listening to the presentations, and doing some of the other activities with their offspring, they headed off to their next event and I to the subway where I began the book and like it a lot so far.
